Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri (CCSOMO) is a faith-based non-profit agency that provides a wide range of social service programs to low-income and vulnerable individuals and families of all faiths. Its service area includes the 39 southernmost counties in the state of Missouri. The following programs are offered from its office in Joplin: 1) repair/rebuild homes for survivors of natural disasters, and low-income families; 2) immediate and long-term disaster response; 3) homelessness prevention services; 4) supportive services for veteran families who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness; 5) family strengthening case management services; and 6) housing and financial counseling. CCSOMO also operates a thrift store called GoodFinds.

The Economic Security Corporation of the Southwest Area (ESC) is a private non-profit Community Action Agency, created in October 1965 to serve the needs of low-income individuals and families. The mission of the agency is “to help families currently caught in poverty to find a way out, and to work in our communities to prevent the conditions of poverty from affecting future generations.” Our main goal is to help individuals function financially, physically, mentally, and socially at their own level and aid their attempts to attain new levels which will allow them to become self-sufficient.
